Stunning! So much depth in the content. I love these masterpieces.

Very nice! Thanks you for the post, Ger. You have reminded me to watch The Passion of The Christ during Lent. By the way, the definitive edition of the film with theological commentary by Mel and Gerry Matatics is worth having.

I didn't know about this edition.  I will look out for it.

The paintings are absolutely breathtaking, aren't they?

Now I wonder if anyone can help me.  I'm clueless about art.  I once saw a painting, pretty sure it was also Baroque style, of an elderly St Peter in prison.  Not his release by an angel, which is all I can find.  Neither is it the Rembrandt where he kneels in a shaft of light.  As far as I remember, he is seated, shoeless, and looks so old and bewildered you just want to put your arms around him.

I love this one too.  He looks like he is struggling to understand what is happening, in the way old people do:

Ger, the artist in your last post, is Hendrick Terbruggen, Dutch baroque era painter, ca. 1588-1629. Here are some more of his paintings. Caravaggio is one of my very favorite artists.  Artemesia Gentileschi, one of his contemporaries, is another of my favorites!  Here is one of hers,  showing Carravagio's influence. And here, you can see more of her work.
